Once again I am honored and pleased to donate my design of the poster for the 7th annual Joni Mitchell Tribute featuring local musicians performing Joni Mitchell songs, a fundraiser for the Community School of Music and Arts in Ithaca, NY.
The image I chose for this year’s poster was part of a series photographed by Norman Jean Roy for New York Magazine (Feb 8, 2015). Mitchell looks quite the sorceress in these photos. I wanted to show a contemporary image of her, instead of the ubiquitous (and beautiful) images of her as a young woman, when she was busy devastating the hearts of young men in L.A. and writing the soundtrack of my own younger years. These photos were published shortly before Mitchell suffered a stroke in March of 2015. She has been recovering from it largely in seclusion but she was recently photographed in public with friends.
The Joni Mitchell Tribute at CSMA Ithaca happens on Saturday, October 15, 7 p.m. at CSMA’s Martha Hamblin Hall, 3rd floor. The address is 330 E. State Street, Ithaca, NY 14850. Admission to the show is just $10. Last year it was standing room only, so come early to get a good seat, and support local music and arts education programs.
